Blur image online

Draw a box over anything private and soften it with a Gaussian blur. For truly sensitive text, a solid cover is safer - blur can sometimes be partially reversed.

Photos - faces, people & animals

A face close-up, a full person, and an animal. Only the subject itself is pixelated in each “After” image - everything else in the photo stays visible and unchanged, and every photo is shown in full, never cropped.

Photo 1 - A person's face

Pixelate: just the face itself - the hair, ears, and background stay exactly as they are.

Quick answer

To blur part of an image online, open BlurTool's blur editor, add your photo or screenshot, drag a box over the area and set the blur strength, then download the result. Only the selected area is blurred; the rest of the image stays sharp. The image is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to blur part of an image

  1. Open the image

Drop, paste or choose a PNG, JPG or WebP file. Blur is already selected as the effect.

  2. Select the area

Drag a box over the part you want to blur. Add as many boxes as you need.

  3. Adjust strength

Raise the strength until the detail is unreadable. Keep opacity at 100% so nothing shows through.

  4. Download

Export a flattened PNG or JPG at the original resolution.

Cover vs blur vs pixelate

CoverReplaces the area with a solid opaque blockPasswords, API keys, card and account numbers, emailsYes, at 100% opacity

Key facts

  • BlurTool applies a Gaussian blur only inside the boxes you draw; the rest of the image is unchanged.
  • Blur is best for backgrounds, crowds, license plates in casual photos and non-critical details.
  • For passwords, API keys, card numbers and one-time codes, a solid cover is safer than blur.
  • BlurTool processes images locally in the browser; the image file is never uploaded to a server.
  • Exports are flattened PNG or JPG files at the original resolution, with no layers and no copied EXIF metadata.
  • BlurTool accepts PNG, JPG or WebP images up to 20 MB, 8000 px per side and 40 megapixels.
  • The manual editor is free and needs no account or sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

Can I blur just one part of a picture?

Yes. BlurTool only blurs the boxes you draw. You can add several boxes, each with its own strength, and the rest of the picture stays exactly as it was.

Can blurred text be un-blurred?

Sometimes. Light blur on short text such as codes or numbers can be guessed or partially reconstructed. For anything secret, use the solid Cover effect instead of blur.

Does blurring reduce image quality?

No. BlurTool exports at the original resolution. Only the selected areas change.

Do I need to install anything?

No. BlurTool works in any modern browser on desktop or mobile, with no install and no account.

For the screenshots you share every day

Revenue dashboards, sale threads and buyer chats, support tickets, invoices, and email threads all hit the same problem: one visible email, API key, or phone number can undo the whole post. The default here is a solid cover - the only effect that guarantees nothing shows through - with blur and pixelate available for softer details. New to it? Open one of the photo or document examples above and practise first.

Your next screenshot is one cover away from safe.
