Photos - faces, people & animals

A face close-up, a full person, and an animal. Only the subject itself is pixelated in each “After” image - everything else in the photo stays visible and unchanged, and every photo is shown in full, never cropped.

Photo 1 - A person's face

Pixelate: just the face itself - the hair, ears, and background stay exactly as they are.

After: the same photo for Photo 1 - A person's face with face pixelated - the rest of the photo is unchanged
After - face pixelated, rest of the photo unchanged

Photo 2 - A full person

Pixelate: the whole figure, head to toe, so the person cannot be recognised.

Quick answer

To hide sensitive information in a screenshot, open BlurTool, paste the screenshot, draw a solid Cover box over every name, number, key or message, then download the flattened image. A solid cover at 100% opacity is the safest redaction because, unlike blur or pixelation, it leaves no trace of the original pixels. The screenshot never leaves your browser.

How to redact a screenshot safely

  1. Paste the screenshot

Press Ctrl/Cmd+V or drop the file. Cover (solid block) is already selected.

  2. Cover every sensitive item

Box each email, phone number, name, account number, API key, address and message preview.

  3. Look for what you missed

Check browser tabs, notifications, URLs, avatars and window titles, which often leak details.

  4. Download and share

Export a flattened PNG or JPG. The original pixels under each cover are gone.

Key facts

  • A solid cover at 100% opacity replaces the original pixels completely; nothing can be recovered from the exported file.
  • Commonly missed details in screenshots: browser tabs, URL bars, notification previews, avatars and timestamps.
  • BlurTool processes images locally in the browser; the image file is never uploaded to a server.
  • Exports are flattened PNG or JPG files at the original resolution, with no layers and no copied EXIF metadata.
  • BlurTool accepts PNG, JPG or WebP images up to 20 MB, 8000 px per side and 40 megapixels.
  • The manual editor is free and needs no account or sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

What is the safest way to redact a screenshot?

Draw a solid opaque box over the sensitive content and export a flattened image. Avoid blur and pixelation for secrets, and avoid highlighting tools that can be removed in editors.

Can someone remove a black box from a screenshot?

Not from a flattened image. BlurTool bakes the cover into the pixels on export, so there is no layer to remove. Redactions only fail when a tool keeps the original underneath, as some PDF and document editors do.

What should I hide before sharing a screenshot?

Emails, phone numbers, full names, addresses, account and order numbers, API keys, tokens, passwords, revenue figures you have not made public, and message previews from other people.

Is there a limit on screenshot size?

BlurTool accepts PNG, JPG or WebP images up to 20 MB, 8000 px per side and 40 megapixels.

For the screenshots you share every day

Revenue dashboards, sale threads and buyer chats, support tickets, invoices, and email threads all hit the same problem: one visible email, API key, or phone number can undo the whole post. The default here is a solid cover - the only effect that guarantees nothing shows through - with blur and pixelate available for softer details. New to it? Open one of the photo or document examples above and practise first.

Your next screenshot is one cover away from safe.
