Photos - faces, people & animals

A face close-up, a full person, and an animal. Only the subject itself is pixelated in each “After” image - everything else in the photo stays visible and unchanged, and every photo is shown in full, never cropped.

Photo 1 - A person's face

Pixelate: just the face itself - the hair, ears, and background stay exactly as they are.

Quick answer

To hide details on an ID card or passport photo, open BlurTool, add the photo, draw a solid Cover box over each field the recipient does not need (such as the document number, date of birth, address, signature, barcode and the machine-readable lines), then download. The photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to redact an ID card or passport photo

  1. Add the photo

Drop or choose the photo or scan of the document. It stays on your device.

  2. Decide what to keep

Keep only what the recipient asked for, often your name and photo. Everything else can be covered.

  3. Cover each field

Box the document number, date of birth, address, signature, barcode or QR code, and the MRZ lines at the bottom of passports.

  4. Download

Export a flattened PNG or JPG and share that copy instead of the original.

Cover vs blur vs pixelate

EffectWhat it doesBest forSafe for secrets?
CoverReplaces the area with a solid opaque blockPasswords, API keys, card and account numbers, emailsYes, at 100% opacity

Key facts

  • The machine-readable zone (the two or three lines of characters at the bottom of a passport or ID) repeats the document number and date of birth.
  • Barcodes and QR codes on driver's licenses and ID cards often encode the same personal data printed on the card.
  • Some services legally require the full document for identity checks; redact only when the recipient does not need the hidden fields.
  • BlurTool processes images locally in the browser; the image file is never uploaded to a server.
  • Exports are flattened PNG or JPG files at the original resolution, with no layers and no copied EXIF metadata.
  • BlurTool accepts PNG, JPG or WebP images up to 20 MB, 8000 px per side and 40 megapixels.
  • The manual editor is free and needs no account or sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

What should I hide on an ID before sharing it?

Usually the document number, date of birth, home address, signature, barcode or QR code, and the machine-readable lines. Keep only what the recipient actually needs.

Is it safe to edit my passport photo online?

With BlurTool, yes: the photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded. Avoid tools that upload ID documents to a server.

Should I blur or cover ID numbers?

Cover them with a solid block at 100% opacity. Blurred numbers can sometimes be read or guessed.

Can I add a watermark like 'for verification only'?

Not yet. Today BlurTool covers, blurs and pixelates. Covering unneeded fields is the most effective protection.

For the screenshots you share every day

Revenue dashboards, sale threads and buyer chats, support tickets, invoices, and email threads all hit the same problem: one visible email, API key, or phone number can undo the whole post. The default here is a solid cover - the only effect that guarantees nothing shows through - with blur and pixelate available for softer details. New to it? Open one of the photo or document examples above and practise first.

Your next screenshot is one cover away from safe.
